The second-generation Camaro™ was produced from 1970 though 1981. After being on hiatus for 1975 and ’76, the Z28® returned as the Camaro lineup’s high-performance model in 1977. The 1981 Z28 was powered by a 350 cu in (5.7L) V8 rated at 175 horsepower. For the first time, the small-block engine was equipped with a Computer Command Control unit that helped it meet tightening emissions regulations in the United States. Compared to lesser Camaros, Z28 had a racier exterior appearance thanks to unique features including a rear-facing hood scoop and bold three-color body stripes. Optional T-top roof panels were also a popular option with sun-loving buyers.
